Teetering Mod

August 1995
An end to Teetering? DESPITE PUBLIC perception, the Robinson R22 is widely regarded within the industry as an ideal training helicopter. Being light and simple, it's cheaper to purchase and run than almost anything else, and its control response and need for careful flying mean that a pilot trained on the R22 normally has no trouble converting to a larger or different helicopter.

Saab Story

August 1995
Impressions of the new Saab 2000. LAST MONTH a Saab 2000 operated by Air Marshall Islands made a flying visit to New Zealand and demonstrated its capabilities to Air New Zealand, Air Nelson and Mount Cook Airlines. Roll up Roll up!

February 1994
IT'S A DIRECT throwback to the aviation scene of 80 years ago. Edwardians queued and paid to enter marquees where they were treated to the sight of flying machines, a rare spectacle in those far-off days before World War 1. So why are thousands of people paying to enter a massive marquee beside a busy intersection in Manukau City, on the southern outskirts of Auckland, in the first month of 1994?

It's Been a Marvellous Game: A Profile of Lew Day

November 1988
FUNNY THING, fate. A person's career can depend on a decision made at a point which might at the time seem unimportant, but which might later change the course of many people's lives. Take Lew Day, for example. There was a time, many years ago, when as a disgruntled grounded and demobbed aviator he had to make a decision: join the fledgling New Zealand National Airways Corporation and have been compulsorily retired many years ago, or join the RAF and take what later flying career would come along after service life? The toss of a coin was helped by the fact that military flying at the time offered a few shillings a week more than the airline, plus an extra 25/6d if he was married, so off to England went newly-weds Lew and Doreen Day.

A VERY SOCIAL GATHERING

November 1988
THE SIXTH Pacific Fighter Pilots' Reunion, held in Auckland during Labour Weekend, was rated as highly successful by all who took part. The sun shone from a cloudless sky with little wind all weekend and the wartime pilots were kept busy with social activities, a visit to Air New Zealand's Mangere base and its flight simulators and, for nearly 80 ex-aviators, joyrides in five Warbirds Association Harvards at Ardmore.

Augusta 109 - Twice as much

October 1987
HELICOPTERS are nothing new in New Zealand, having been used for a wide variety of aerial work and passenger carrying for a number of years. One recent development, however, is the use of helicopters in the executive transport role, as an increasing amount of capital in the higher corporate echelons calls for more emphasis on productive use of executives' time.
