NEW Zealand's first homebuilt replica, the Isaacs Fury II ZKDMN, a 7/10 scale replica of a an RAF Hawker Fury built by Aucklander Barry Thompson, was recently granted a full permit to fly, which included spinning, aerobatics, flick manoeuvres and load factors of +5G and —1G.
The Fury is currently the hot ship of the NZ homebuilt fraternity; on a recent 15 minute flight (chock to chock) one pilot squeezed in three six-turn spins, eight loops, eight barrel rolls, six aileron rolls, two half rolls, two rolls off the top of loops, two upward spins — plus a couple of circuits. One aileron roll, with full control deflection, was timed at two seconds for the complete roll — 180° per second.
