Mountain Maule: Bush pilot in the Southern Alps



 

Bush pilots and the great outback are terms more associated with the vast wilderness of Alaska and Australia than New Zealand. But this country has its own breed of bush pilots, especially in the south-west of the South Island where one such man, operating from a remote airstrip, is carving a living out of flying into even more remote airstrips high in the mountains of the Southern Lakes district.
